Jackdaw Chatter - The Quarterly Magazine about Stow-cum-Quy
Another railway story - with a difference.
Over the last two years, whilst battling against illness, our old friend Rod
Norden has created a little masterpiece in his bungalow in the Square, which
I think we ought to share with everyone.
He's made a model railway layout using 'N' gauge track and stock. It's tiny,
but Rod tells me there's an even smaller gauge. Generally Rod has made everything
else by hand, mostly in his little shed, without power tools. His painting of
the track and background remind us that Rod was always a bit of an artist, and
of the stage sets he used to paint for the pantomimes of old. The set includes
sidings, level crossings, points, platforms, a turntable, inclines, a river
and a bridge, and the buildings include stations, an engine shed, power station,
mill, the White Swan from Quy and a thatched cottage - all expertly wired and
lit. Pat tells me he had no plans or drawings, but it all works perfectly !
