Jackdaw Chatter - The Quarterly Magazine about Stow-cum-Quy

Thanks for the Memories
Following the tragic shooting of ‘our swan’, the Parish Council sent a letter of thanks to Andrea Carrier for the efforts she put into feeding the mother swan left to fend for herself and her five cygnets. Here is part of the letter Andrea wrote back in return:
Thank you so much for your letter. I, like everyone, was very upset with what happened to Elvis (as I affectionately called him!) and Priscilla the female. Never in a million years did I think this would happen. I have loved going to the river to see the swans and other wildlife.
I would like to say a big thank you for all the support that has been given to me especially by Barry and Betty Cox, Barry keeping me sane and just ‘being there’ and Shirley Thorby who gave me words of encouragement and grain! and Johnny Chapman who took beautiful photos of Priscilla with all her babies.
Sadly, Priscilla lost three babies over two nights. She has now moved upriver we think. In the meantime two new swans have taken up residence on the river, they are only about a year old as they still have their ‘baby’ feathers. I have been calling them ‘Sid and Nancy’ and if they decide to stay it would be lovely.
I have been overwhelmed by the support of people, so I would like to thank everyone.

Andrea Carrier
