Jackdaw Chatter - The Quarterly Magazine about Stow-cum-Quy

Hello again,
We’ve had a jolly good spring and somehow, I suspect that the summer is going to be rather a good one.
My kitchen garden is growing quite well, which is a sure sign that things are looking good. I’ve got some tomato plants, some chillies, cucumbers, beetroot and rocket. Being optimistic about having a good summer I’ve also put in a melon plant, but it’s not looking very happy. It will be interesting to see if it does grow
any fruit.
The culmination of the summer, for me, is the Fenland Fair at August bank holiday. I always save some of the money I earn during the shooting season to spend on the shooting competitions and meeting up with friends in the beer tent. I tend to think that the Fair is the marker that says the next shooting season is just around the corner.
In case you are wondering why there is a picture of a sheep on the front cover of this issue, the sheep in question is ‘Lucky’. She featured in Bill’s bit last time as the lamb that only just survived. Lots of people have been asking Bill about what happened to her, so we decided to give visual proof that she has indeed survived and is now thriving with the other lambs that were born this spring.
Also, we would really like to receive more photos from around Quy. So get your cameras out and start snapping. If we get enough good ones we might consider creating a Quy calendar for next year. Have a happy summer.

All the best.
Nigel
